Why Is It Important To Exercise?
If you think that exercising is fundamentally an aesthetic matter, you are profoundly mistaken. According to WHO, the World Health Organization, exercising regularly helps prevent and manage non-communicable diseases, such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and several cancers.
Exercise is also essential to prevent hypertension, maintain your body weight, improve mental health, quality of life and well-being.
Tips to Start Exercising
If you have any health problems that could be aggravated by exercise, always consult a doctor. Remember, we’re focused on building a healthy lifestyle, so it’s all about the long term. You want to avoid injury so that you are consistent and healthily reach your goals!
Now that you understand the purpose of exercising, check out our tips below.
1. Choose A Suitable Activity For You
This is a golden tip, as thousands of people start exercising because of social pressure or health reasons. It is essential to choose a sport or activity that you like or have a minimum of aptitude.
Let me explain: how many of your friends keep repeating how much they hate the gym? The gym is not the only option for maintaining good health, and if you don’t like the environment, you will never be consistent – and that is the key to achieving your goals.
If you are unsure, try to remember what you liked to do as a child! If you enjoyed playing volleyball or swimming, for example, this is the way to start exercising!
2. It’s Not About Aesthetics Only. Think About Your Health!
Of course, we all want to be in shape, but remember, the focus should be on your health. By focusing on your health, it is easier to understand that this is a life project.
The problem with focusing on aesthetics is that the more you focus on achieving a perfect body, the more you realize it will take time. Therefore, as a human being, you will naturally delay or lose focus.
Forget Instagram influencers; forget about that influencer you admire and focus on your health. If you are determined to be in better health, your body will evolve naturally.
You should think of exercise as something that should be part of your routine. You need to work to pay your bills, right? Sport is a commitment like any other. What helped me to understand that, was thinking that more than a nice body, I want to age well, being able to play with my kids in the future, and live as much as possible.
You may not have any of these goals, but understand that you’re not just exercising to have a nice body now. We are looking to the future!
3. Respect Your Body
Rule number one is: take it easy. If you’ve been sedentary for years, or haven’t been exercising for a while, start slowly. The last thing you want is an injury that will delay all your results.
High performance is achieved with time, consistency and dedication, so respect your body, and the results will come naturally. If you have difficulty exercising twice a week, it makes no sense to start working out 5 or 6 times a week.
Be realistic and embrace the struggle! We are all capable of achieving great results when we welcome and enjoy the challenge. Remember that rest is an essential part of the process!
4. Take Photos And Record Your Progress!
Here is another golden tip! About 6 years ago, I started exercising regularly and for the first 3 years, I never registered any kind of progress. This really hindered my consistency because I thought I was evolving slowly, demotivating me.
Take a picture of your body fortnightly or monthly, and you will know how you are constantly progressing. If you are consistent and are eating well, it is possible to see great results in a really short time.
5. Start Exercising And Don’t Be Intimidated By Others!
When we start exercising, we make comparisons all the time. It’s inevitable. Upon entering the gym, we look at the girl with thick legs, at the guy with massive arms, and we end up getting discouraged because we think we’ll never get there.
I’ll let you in on a secret: you’ll probably never get there anyway. That’s because we all have individual bodies and genetics, so even if you exercise every day of the week, that doesn’t mean you’ll have the same body as someone else. Your muscles, biotype and genetics are different, so forget about it.
Focus on your results and seek to excel in each exercise. Break your limits and believe that, over time, you will have good physical conditioning.
